“Slum Clearing Cash Sought for L.A.”
c. 1949–1950

A report on the municipal housing commission's request for a $3,000,000 federal loan for Los Angeles County's first “slum clearance” project: about 300 acres south of Elysian Park between Effie Street, Electra Avenue, and Brooks Drive, the area that included Palo Verde, La Loma, and Bishop. Labeling these neighborhoods “slums” was central to how the land was taken.
